Antarctica

Did some of the EHE – “exploration explanation”
Did adventure 4 – calculation on movement of Ice Sheet.  Did together:

Antarctic Ice Sheet

It moves about 200m a year at the edges, due to pressure from new snow falling.

1m = 100 cm, so it moves 200 x 100 = 20,000 cm a year.

1 day = 24 hours

1 year = 365 days

So 1 year = 365 x 24 = 8760 hours.

So the ice moves 20,000 cm in 8760 hours.

In 1 hour it moves 20,000 ÷ 8760 = 2.3 cm.

So, the Antarctic Ice Sheet moves about 2.3 cm every hour!
